I’m trying to record electrical activity in sciatic nerve in vivo. I’m looking for compound action potentials (or any kind of activity, actually). I used a standard setup today with two wires wrapped around the nerve as electrodes. I pinched the toe of the mouse and didn’t see any activity. I’m suspecting that the weak signal is being insulated by the nerve sheath.
Does anyone have any protocols or tips on how to get good nerve recordings?
- What kind of electrodes? Cuffs?
- Should I just try to stick the electrodes into the nerve rather than around it?
- Do you remove the nerve sheath?
