Horizontal slices - Correctly identifying laminae

I’ve been taking horizontal slices of the spinal cord as opposed to transverse. Anyone know of any good tips to correctly identify what lamina I’m in? I use NK-1 staining for lamina I…but lamina II-III, and even deeper, any landmarks anyone knows for identification? Thickness per laminae? Any help is greatly appreciated! Someone had mentioned they look at the translucency of grey matter and areas of white matter, but I’d like something a bit more solid than this.

I suspect you’re going to need to use some kind of cell type marker. IB4 for lamina IIi and PKCgamma as well.
